Remote & Indigenous Communities
At Mount Etna Child & Family Services, we acknowledge with deep respect and gratitude that our three clinics are located on the traditional territories of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation.

We honour the enduring presence, knowledge, and stewardship of these Nations and recognize the significance of this land to their past, present, and future generations.

As a teaching and service clinic, our commitment extends beyond acknowledgment. We actively strive to walk alongside Indigenous families and communities through:

-
Culturally Sensitive Therapy – Our clinicians are trained in cultural humility and respect, integrating Indigenous values, traditions, and family perspectives into therapy goals when invited to do so.
-
Accessible Care – We provide ABA, Speech-Language, and Occupational Therapy services that are adaptable to community needs and settings, including outreach to remote and Indigenous communities across Durham and Toronto.
-
Collaboration & Partnerships – We welcome opportunities to co-create programming with community members, Elders, and Knowledge Keepers, ensuring services are meaningful, inclusive, and supportive of Indigenous ways of knowing.
-
Education & Training – As a teaching clinic, we support the next generation of therapists in learning cultural respect, humility, and the importance of community-driven approaches.
-
Equity of Access – Through our charitable arm, Embers for Access Foundation, we help reduce financial barriers so families from Indigenous communities can receive support without limitation.

In the spirit of connection, we say “miigwech” (thank you) and “boozhoo” (hello/welcome) to those who share their knowledge and traditions with us. It is with humility that we continue to learn, grow, and contribute to the well-being of children and families in partnership with these communities.

Early Intervention
ESDM (Early Start Denver Model) is an evidence-based intervention, integrating applied behaviour analysis (ABA) principles with holistic developmental and relationship-based strategies for children under 5.

*ABA
ABA is a scientific approach focusing on understanding and *improving behaviour and aiding in skill acquisition by applying evidence-based strategies to bring about meaningful change across the lifespan.

Parent Consults
Parent/caregiver consults involve providing guidance and support to parents/caregivers on implementing tailored behaviour analytic strategies at home or in the education setting to facilitate and support their child's development and learning.
