ABA Therapy
ABA, or Applied Behaviour Analysis, is a systematic way of understanding how behaviour works and how children learn. At Mount Etna it looks like play, not worksheets. We build skills through everyday activities a child already cares about, and we measure whether what we are doing is actually helping.
Who It Is For
- Children who are working on communication, play, daily routines or self-advocacy
- Families who want a naturalistic, child-led approach rather than repetitive table work
- Children with or without a diagnosis, since a diagnosis is not required to start
What Happens in a Session
- Sessions are led by a Registered Behaviour Analyst or a Supervised Behaviour Clinician working under RBA supervision.
- We use Natural Environment Teaching and Naturalistic Developmental Behavioural Interventions, which means skills are practised in the situation where they are actually needed.
- Caregivers are part of goal setting, and we review progress together rather than reporting at you.
- We collect data so decisions about what to change are based on what the data shows.
We primarily focus on skill acquisition and social skills programming. Where a family is dealing with challenging or aggressive behaviour we recommend sessions take place in the home setting.
Goals We Might Work On
- Functional communication, including AAC where it helps
- Play and flexible thinking with peers and siblings
- Daily living and self-care routines
- Transitions and coping with change
- School readiness
